GPD Group Announces LEED Gold Certification

(Akron, OH – September 4, 2012) GPD Group, an area leader in educational planning and design, is pleased to announce that Berea City School District’s Grindstone Elementary School has received LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Located in Berea, Ohio, a western suburb of Cleveland, Grindstone Elementary is just one of 19 school buildings to earn Gold status, and Rodwell King, senior project manager at GPD, is proud to have designed one of them.

Grindstone Elementary is a new 850-student Preschool through Grade 4 elementary school that was built to replace four smaller buildings in the district. The well-planned, 107,047 sf facility is a welcomed addition to the area, earning high praise from local residents.

GPD, as part of a collaborative team effort with Berea City Schools, is proud to have incorporated so many aspects of sustainable design throughout planning, design and construction of this project. Originally designed to LEED Silver standards, the facility incorporated additional elements that allowed it to surpass the silver requirements and achieve Gold. With an emphasis on daylighting, this new facility scores a perfect 10 and offers a cool roof, water-efficient landscaping and geothermal heating and cooling. The interior features wireless computer connectivity and state-of-the-art learning technology, and the playground is ADA compliant with artificial turf and accessible equipment.
