On Thursday, November 3, the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, its Associate Board and many community partners, including the City of Akron and the Knight Foundation, gathered for an evening dedication of the Russell Avenue underpass on the Towpath Trail. GPD volunteers participated in the revitalization of this underpass, the first in a series of iTowpath projects aimed at creating more open and welcoming spaces for pedestrians and bicyclists along the trail. Enhancements included new landscape, painting, and programmable color changing lighting. GPD’s electrical engineers designed the new full spectrum lighting system utilizing energy efficient LED technology. In addition to the fun colored lighting effects, bright white lights were installed to help create a sense of safety and security on the trail.
