‘Bel Nafegar Sanchez Elementary Brings Color to the School Day

October 18, 2019

On Sunday, October 6, Alvin Independent School District in Alvin, Texas, celebrated the dedication of the ‘Bel Nafegar Sanchez Elementary. This 103,500 square foot school, named after a retired educator and administrator, ‘Bel Sanchez, opened its doors to nearly 800 Pre-K – 5th grade students in the fall of 2019.

This building is the second iteration of a prototype elementary school for the District. GPD modified the floor plan slightly from the previous design to reflect lessons learned and changing administrative standards. In addition, the exterior elevations and interior finishes were modified heavily to give the school its own identity.

The school’s two-story library is the centerpiece of learning, offering splashes of playful colors through the use of unique tile patterns and colored glazing glass. Solatubes and windows provide natural light to all educational spaces in this compact design. Energy efficiency features were also incorporated throughout the school, including Demand Control HVAC systems, LED lighting and shading devices.
