A Smart Street in Youngstown

The City of Youngstown is partnering with GPD to develop project concepts and specification documents for its Smart2 Network, an initiative aimed at visually connecting the city and creating energetic, vibrant streets through the use of decorative crosswalks, street trees, specialty pavement, site amenities and landscape.

The project involves improvements to numerous streets within the heart of the downtown using a combination of road diets, streetscaping, bicycle facilities, improved sidewalks, roadway and pedestrian lighting, intersection curb bump-outs and ADA-compliant curb ramps. Through a design-build project delivery, this program will provide autonomous transit shuttles, transit waiting environments, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, green infrastructure, streetscaping, and wayfinding linking major regional anchor institutions impacting economic resurgence across the Mahoning Valley, including Youngstown State University, Mercy Health, Youngstown Business Incubator, and Eastern Gateway Community College.
