This project consists of engineering services for the assessment and replacement of three existing underground utility vaults on The University of Akron's main campus. Their heating and cooling systems utilize a complex system of tunnels and direct buried pipe to traverse the campus. Much of the valving in this network is contained in several underground vaults, of which many are in need of repair and/or replacement due to corrosion, spalling concrete, and anchor failures. GPD is currently assessing the existing heating system and analyzing for thermal expansion and anchor stresses, then will provide design for new high temperature hot water distribution, system anchors and expansion loops.
