An Innovative Stormwater Sewer in Cleveland
The City of Cleveland had experienced ongoing issues with basement and street flooding in its urban neighborhoods for decades. To design a long-term solution to the problem, Cleveland partnered with GPD to plan and engineer a comprehensive sewer relief program.
To approach the issue, GPD designed a new curved micro-tunneled 48-in. relief sewer—only the second of its kind in the State of Ohio. Construction of the complex, $15M design was fast tracked and completed within 12 months. The completed sewer system delivers major benefit to the streets and basements of Cleveland, and was the result of coordinated partnership between the city, the Ohio EPA, private utilities, the regional sewer agency, and GPD.
