Modernizing a Historic Courthouse in Summit County

The Summit County Courthouse handles both criminal and civil cases, and was originally constructed in the early 1900s. The aging structure needed modern renovations to better service the County, and GPD was selected to help.

GPD designed a 78,000-square-foot, 5-story addition to the existing historic structure, including a new main security entrance, two floors for the Clerk of Courts and three floors for the Domestic Relations Court. New features included three new courtrooms, new offices for 11 magistrates, accessible filing systems, an increased level of security, space planning, a building security system, technology upgrades, a common lobby area as well as new finishes throughout the building. The result is a revitalized courthouse with a better ability to serve the community.
